169 people killed after insurgents raid a village in a remote area of South Sudan 03.03.2026

At least 169 people, including 90 civilians, women, children, and combatants, were killed on Sunday in Abiemnom county, South Sudan, following a raid by insurgents. The attack, described as coordinated and organized, has been attributed by local officials to elements linked to the White Army militia and forces affiliated with Riek Machar's Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-in-Opposition. Machar's group has denied responsibility. The violence, which has displaced 280,000 people, escalates ongoing conflict between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and armed groups believed to support Machar, threatening the fragile 2018 peace agreement. The UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) reported that 1,000 people sought shelter at its base, with 23 wounded.
