Gauteng police are investigating the fatal panga attack of an 18-year-old Grade 10 learner, Sinenhlanhla Masilela, in Braamfischerville, Soweto, on Tuesday. Masilela was reportedly visiting a friend and later went to a secondary school in the area where he was assaulted by unknown suspects. He sustained severe injuries, allegedly from a panga, and died after being transported to a local clinic. A motive for the attack is currently unknown, though reports suggest a dispute over alleged stolen items may be involved, leading to further disruptions and criminal cases filed against former learners at affected schools. Another learner was wounded but has since been released.
