Bill Cosby found guilty of 1972 sexual assault, victim awarded nearly $60m 24.03.2026

A jury in Santa Monica, California, has found 88-year-old comedian Bill Cosby liable for drugging and sexually assaulting Donna Motsinger in 1972, awarding her $59.25 million in damages. The civil trial, which lasted nearly two weeks, concluded on Monday with jurors determining Cosby committed sexual battery and assault against Motsinger, then a restaurant server in Sausalito. Motsinger's lawsuit, filed in 2023, detailed how Cosby allegedly gave her wine and pills at a San Carlos comedy show, leading to her being drugged and raped. Cosby's legal team argued the allegations were speculative, but the jury awarded Motsinger $17.5 million in past damages and $1.75 million for future damages, followed by an additional $40 million in punitive damages. Cosby's lawyer stated they are disappointed and plan to appeal.
