2 S'pore residents isolated at NCID after hantavirus exposure on cruise & flight, undergoing testing: CDA 07.05.2026

Two Singapore residents have been isolated at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) and are undergoing testing for hantavirus after exposure on the cruise ship MV Hondius and a flight. One individual, a 67-year-old Singaporean male who arrived on May 2, and a 65-year-old Singapore Permanent Resident male who arrived on May 6, were on the MV Hondius, which departed Ushuaia, Argentina, on April 1, 2026. Both also shared a flight from St Helena to Johannesburg on April 25 with a confirmed, deceased hantavirus case. The Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) stated that the risk to the general public in Singapore is low, and test results for the two individuals are pending. If negative, they will undergo a 30-day quarantine, with further testing.
