Former Senegalese President Macky Sall is continuing his diplomatic campaign for the position of United Nations Secretary-General. After meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on June 29, he held discussions on July 6, 2026, in New York with Ambassador Fu Cong, China's Permanent Representative to the UN. Macky Sall praised the quality of the discussions, stating that they shared views on important issues facing the Organization and the future of multilateralism. This meeting is part of a series of consultations aimed at gathering support for his candidacy. The election of the next Secretary-General is expected by the end of 2026 to succeed António Guterres. Macky Sall officially submitted his candidacy at the beginning of the year and has already presented his vision before the United Nations General Assembly.
