2026 World Cup poses massive security challenge for US law enforcement 02.06.2026

Law enforcement agencies are commencing extensive operations at the New York-New Jersey command center in Trenton to manage security for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. From June 1, 120 representatives from various agencies will provide 24/7 oversight for the tournament, which spans six weeks from June 11 to July 19. This edition is the largest in history, featuring 48 teams across three host nations (US, Canada, Mexico), 16 stadiums, and 104 matches. MetLife Stadium, near the command center, will host eight matches, including the final. The security challenge is magnified by geopolitical tensions involving participating countries like Iran and Iraq, visa restriction issues with nations such as Haiti and Algeria, health concerns like the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and strained US relations with countries targeted by trade wars.
