2027: Rep Member, ADC Chieftain Disagree Over Obi, Others’ Defection 05.05.2026

A disagreement has emerged between House of Representatives member Ifeanyi Uzokwe and African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Deputy Financial Secretary Oladimeji Fabiyi regarding recent defections from the party. Former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, along with other National Assembly members, left the ADC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing multiple court cases and the influence of ex-vice president Atiku Abubakar. Uzokwe, appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, alleged that Atiku pushed them out by claiming the opposition coalition was formed in his house and that ADC is his party. Fabiyi countered that defectors like Obi are avoiding challenges and are self-serving, not leaders for the people. The ADC, adopted as an opposition platform in June 2025 with heavyweights including Atiku and Rotimi Amaechi, has faced internal squabbles and court cases, prompting these defections less than a year before the 2027 elections.
