This statement comes after Pakistan declared the situation an "open war" and conducted airstrikes on Afghan territory, which were met with retaliatory attacks. The U.S. State Department spokesperson reiterated that the Afghan Taliban is designated as a terrorist group and has failed to uphold counterterrorism commitments, allowing terrorist groups to launch attacks from Afghanistan. U.S. diplomat Allison Hooker also confirmed speaking with Pakistan Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch regarding the escalating tensions.
