26-jährige Trump-Assistentin ohne Kunst-Expertise soll über 400-Millionen-Dollar-Ballsaal entscheiden 19.02.2026

President Donald Trump has appointed Chamberlain Harris, a 26-year-old White House assistant with no apparent art expertise, to the Commission of Fine Arts, an 116-year-old body tasked with reviewing significant design projects in Washington D.C. This appointment comes as the commission, along with the National Capital Planning Commission, is set to evaluate Trump's controversial plans for a new $400 million, 90,000-square-foot ballroom at the White House. Harris, who previously served as a "receptionist of the United States" and holds a bachelor's degree in political science, is one of seven commissioners Trump appointed in January after dismissing the previous members. Critics argue that individuals appointed to these committees lack the necessary qualifications to assess architectural and urban planning proposals, particularly concerning projects like the ballroom and a proposed 250-foot-tall triumphal arch. The White House defended Harris's appointment, citing her loyalty and understanding of the President's vision. The Commission of Fine Arts is scheduled to review the ballroom designs on Thursday, with the White House aiming for approval from both bodies by March to commence construction in April.
