A survey of 1,810 individuals without a hearing loss diagnosis revealed that nearly half struggled to hear common sounds, including leaves rustling (47%), someone calling their name (46%), and rainfall (43%). Other common difficulties included hearing a cyclist's bell (42%), a door knock (40%), and a phone ringing (39%). Rolfe emphasizes that hearing loss can occur at any age due to various causes like aging, loud noise exposure, injury, or infection, and early recognition and action are crucial for improving quality of life and reconnecting with others.
