Woman with rare blood feels 'honoured' to donate 13.03.2026

Mina Stoddart-Stones, a 26-year-old from Bridgwater, Somerset, has been recognized by NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) as a "VIP" donor due to her exceptionally rare blood type, U negative and N negative. This blood type is missing antigens found in nearly all of the UK population, making her one of only nine such donors in the country. Her blood is also RO, a subtype frequently found in individuals of black African or Caribbean descent. Stoddart-Stones, who feels "very special and honoured" by her ability to help critically ill patients, is part of NHSBT's rare donor panel, comprising approximately 1,200 individuals. Her donations are specifically reserved for patients with the same rare blood type, often those undergoing surgery or requiring transfusions for conditions like sickle cell disease.
