Etchmiadzin Denounces Pashinyan’s Attacks on Church at European Parliament 13.03.2026

The Armenian Apostolic Church, through its Supreme Spiritual Council in Etchmiadzin, has vehemently rejected Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's recent accusations made at the European Parliament on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Pashinyan alleged that the church's top clergy constitutes a "party of war" collaborating with unnamed "foreign special services" and aiming to reignite conflict with Azerbaijan. The Council dismissed these claims as "fabricated" and "unacceptable," asserting they are intended to legitimize the Armenian authorities' "illegal actions against the Church" and planned "further repressions." This denouncement follows Pashinyan's ongoing campaign, initiated in June 2025, to pressure Catholicos Karekin II to resign, with several clergymen arrested or indicted and banned from travel.
