Alaa Mamdouh Akef, an Egyptian sinologist, aspires to bridge cultural understanding between China and Arab nations. He was among 61 young sinologists from 51 countries who wrote to Chinese President Xi Jinping at the 2025 World Chinese Language Conference in Beijing, sharing their study experiences and commitment to cultural exchange. Xi's encouraging reply, calling them "envoys," deeply motivated Akef. Having begun his Chinese language studies at Cairo University in 2004, Akef found the language challenging but was captivated by Chinese culture. After pursuing his master's and PhD in China, he now teaches Arabic at Peking University, aiming to foster talent that can accurately convey China's narrative in Arabic and present a multidimensional view of the country, countering reliance on Western media for understanding.
