229 migrants found calling for help in back of truck in Mexico 24.03.2026

Mexican authorities in Veracruz discovered 229 migrants on Monday, Monday, packed inside a stolen truck after hearing them call for help from a police impound lot. The migrants, primarily from Central America, included 17 minors and some suffering from dehydration. This incident, the first of its kind in months, suggests a potential increase in migration towards the United States, a route historically fraught with danger from criminal groups and often involving perilous transport in overcrowded vehicles. While overall U.S.-Mexico border crossings have significantly decreased since 2022, there are indications that northbound migration is slowly resuming, with shelters in southern Mexico reporting a slight uptick in Central American migrants heading north.
