At least five killed in massive wave of Russian strikes across Ukraine, officials say 24.03.2026

Russia launched a massive aerial bombardment across Ukraine overnight, resulting in at least five fatalities and numerous injuries. The attacks, described as among the worst in ten days, targeted multiple regions including Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Poltava, with a 61-year-old woman killed by a drone strike on an electric train in Kharkiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned of an imminent "massive strike," and the barrage involved seven ballistic missiles, 23 cruise missiles, four air-launched guided missiles, and 392 drones, though air defence units intercepted a significant portion. The strikes also impacted Moldova's energy infrastructure, disconnecting its key power link with Europe. Damage was reported in eleven regions, with Zaporizhzhia experiencing six drone and six ballistic missile strikes, and Poltava seeing residential buildings and a hotel hit.
