Gang-rape victim, 25, dies by euthanasia after father's legal challenge fails 26.03.2026

Noelia Castillo Ramos, a 25-year-old paraplegic woman from Barcelona, Spain, died by euthanasia on Thursday evening after a prolonged legal battle initiated by her father to prevent it. Ramos became paralyzed from the waist down in October 2022 following a suicide attempt by jumping from a fifth-floor window, which occurred after she had been raped on two occasions, including a gang rape in 2022. Suffering from severe, chronic, and incapacitating pain with no prospect of improvement, Ramos expressed a clear and consistent wish to end her suffering, stating her desire to die peacefully. Her father, Geronimo Castillo, supported by the advocacy group Abogados Cristianos, argued that her mental illness, including OCD and BPD, impaired her decision-making capacity. However, courts, including the Constitutional Court of Spain and the European Court of Human Rights, ultimately ruled in her favor, upholding her right to euthanasia, which was legalized in Spain in 2021.
