Govt to summon mamak shop group over 30% cost increase claim 28.03.2026

Malaysia's Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living will summon the Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) to provide evidence for its claim that mamak restaurants are experiencing a 10% to 30% increase in the cost of certain goods. Deputy minister Fuziah Salleh stated that the ministry's enforcement director-general will request detailed explanations and supporting data from Presma. While acknowledging global economic pressures, supply chain disruptions, and rising logistics costs as contributing factors, Fuziah emphasized that any price adjustments for consumers must not be arbitrary. The ministry is committed to collaborating with industry players to address challenges but will take stern action under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 against unreasonable price hikes, prioritizing consumer protection.
