Court convicts ex-MFA employee on revised charge 8h ago

Former Armenian Foreign Ministry employee Ashkhen Aleksanyan has been convicted on a revised charge of abuse of official authority or exceeding official powers, following an earlier acquittal on high treason charges. The Yerevan Court of First Instance issued the guilty verdict during a closed hearing on March 27, 2026. The court determined that Aleksanyan's actions, initially investigated under articles related to treason and espionage based on a National Security Service report from the summer of 2025, constituted a violation of Article 441(1) of the Criminal Code, not high treason. Aleksanyan remains in custody, with her detention as a preventive measure unchanged.
