S’pore Govt to address concerns over impacts of Middle East conflict: PM Wong 11h ago

Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced on March 28, 2026, that the government will address concerns regarding the economic impacts of the Middle East conflict, particularly the Iran war, during the upcoming parliamentary sitting on April 7. The blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for approximately one-fifth of global crude oil, has led to soaring oil prices and threatened inflation, with businesses passing increased costs to consumers. Wong emphasized the government's close monitoring of the situation and its efforts to strengthen Singapore's energy and supply chain resilience, exploring diversified energy supplies and preparing for all possible contingencies, including impacts on diesel and jet fuel markets. He also noted discussions with Asian leaders who share widespread concern over the escalating regional instability.
