West Bengal Elections: EC adds 31 lakh names to voter list ahead of polls 4h ago

The Election Commission of India has significantly expanded West Bengal's electorate to 6.76 crore by adding approximately 31 lakh new names through two supplementary voter lists. This update comes as polling dates for the state elections are set for April 23 and April 29. The Commission is prepared to issue daily updates to the voter list as polling approaches and is enhancing surveillance measures, including 100% webcasting of the proceedings. The process involved judicial officers under the supervision of the Calcutta High Court, with around 37 lakh of 60.6 lakh cases under adjudication being disposed of.
