Bushiri fights auction of jet bought with suitcase of cash amid fraud probe 22h ago

Fugitive pastor Shepherd Bushiri is contesting the impending auction of his Gulfstream jet, purchased in 2015 for over $1.1 million in cash. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) secured an asset forfeiture order for the aircraft as part of an ongoing fraud and money laundering investigation. Bushiri, who fled South Africa in 2020 with his wife Mary on charges including fraud and rape, claims the jet was lawfully acquired through a sale with National Airways Corporation (NAC) and financed by a fabricated loan from Joint Aviation Resources (JAR). However, police investigators and SARB officials have found no record of this loan and suspect a breach of exchange control regulations, with one investigator stating the loan agreement appears fabricated. Bushiri argues the NPA cannot prove the money was from illicit sources and that he complied with all procedures.
