Pakistan is hosting a crucial two-day consultation of foreign ministers from Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt in Islamabad, aiming to foster direct diplomatic talks between the United States and Iran amidst ongoing conflict. This initiative represents the most coordinated regional effort to date, building on prior discussions in Riyadh. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has engaged in direct communication with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, emphasizing de-escalation and the need for trust, which Pezeshkian stated is contingent on confidence-building measures and an end to hostilities. The meeting, moved from Ankara to Islamabad due to Pakistan's central role as an intermediary, seeks to align regional positions and prepare the groundwork for potential high-level engagement, with China also supporting Pakistan's mediation.
