African football chief will ‘respect’ CAS decision on AFCON final row 29.03.2026

Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe stated he will abide by the Court of Arbitration for Sport's (CAS) ruling regarding Senegal's appeal against being stripped of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title. The controversy arose after Senegal's victory over hosts Morocco in the final last month, where Senegalese players walked off the pitch following a disputed penalty awarded to Morocco. Although Morocco missed the penalty and Senegal scored in extra time to win, Morocco's subsequent appeal led to a 3-0 awarded victory. Motsepe emphasized the independence of the CAS and announced CAF's commitment to implementing regulatory changes to prevent similar incidents, aiming to bolster confidence in referees and judicial bodies. Additionally, Samson Adamu has been appointed caretaker general secretary, replacing Veron Mosengo-Omba, who is retiring.
