Fugitive Dezi Freeman shot dead by Australian police after seven months in hiding 30.03.2026

Australian police have shot and killed Dezi Freeman, a fugitive double-murderer and conspiracy theorist, after a seven-month manhunt. Freeman, 56, had been on the run since August 26, 2023, when he fatally shot two police officers, Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Constable Vadim de Waart, on his property in Porepunkah, Victoria. Following an hours-long stand-off on Monday morning at a rural property in the state's north-east, a man believed to be Freeman emerged from a structure armed with a gun and was shot dead by officers. Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush stated that while formal identification is pending, the man is believed to be Freeman, and investigators are now focusing on identifying anyone who may have assisted him during his time in hiding.
