Europe's AI leader Mistral raises $830m for data centre near Paris 7h ago

French AI company Mistral has secured $830 million (€750 million) in funding from seven banks to construct a new data centre near Paris, specifically in Bruyères-le-Châtel. This facility will house over 13,000 NVIDIA chips, enabling Mistral to train its AI models and achieve a compute power of 44 megawatts (MW), which is approximately 1.5 times the energy consumption of a standard data centre. The investment underscores Mistral's commitment to building robust AI cloud infrastructure in Europe, aligning with its broader goal of establishing 200 MW of compute capacity across the continent by next year. This initiative follows a recent $1.4 billion (€1.2 billion) investment in Sweden for AI infrastructure and plans for a massive AI campus in France by 2030.
