The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is implementing significant reforms to its statutes and regulations to address refereeing and judicial controversies, particularly those that marred the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Final in Morocco. CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced in Cairo on Sunday that these "far-reaching" changes aim to restore confidence in officiating, Video Assistant Referees (VAR), and CAF's judicial bodies, ensuring such incidents do not recur. The reforms, developed with extensive legal advice from football experts, will enhance governance, transparency, and integrity, aligning CAF's rules with global best practices. This initiative includes expanded collaboration with FIFA for referee training, professionalizing refereeing, improving compensation, and maintaining independent judicial structures, all while reinforcing a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
