Passengers’ luggage tags were used to traffic kilos of cannabis. An Air Canada employee has been charged 30.03.2026

An Air Canada employee, Atasha Weathley, has been charged with possession for the purpose of export and conspiracy to commit an indictable offense after allegedly using unsuspecting passengers' luggage tags to traffic 66 kilograms of cannabis. The incident occurred at Toronto Pearson International Airport on February 19, when Canada Border Services Agency personnel discovered 33 kilograms of cannabis in each of two identical suitcases belonging to two separate German citizens scheduled to fly to Germany. The passengers, who were unaware of the drugs, were arrested by the RCMP but later released. Investigators determined that Weathley, a baggage room employee, had affixed the passengers' tags to the cannabis-filled suitcases. Weathley, a 32-year-old Mississauga resident, was arrested on March 12 and is scheduled to appear in Brampton court on April 10.
