Trump admin launches Gen Z hiring push as officials warn of federal youth gap 15h ago

The Trump administration, through the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and in partnership with the White House, is launching a new initiative called the "Early Career Talent Network" to address a significant youth gap in the federal workforce. This program aims to recruit Gen Z workers to rebuild the federal talent pipeline, which currently has only about 7% of its workforce under age 30, compared to 22% in the non-government sector. The initiative, accessible via Earlycareers.gov, seeks to make government careers appealing by focusing on demonstrated talent rather than traditional qualifications and will initially target roles in finance, human resources, engineering, project management, and procurement. This hiring push represents a shift from previous workforce reduction efforts, with officials emphasizing the need to compete with the private sector and ensure long-term government readiness.
