$45M in cocaine seized after cross-border tunnel discovery in California 03.06.2026

Federal agents in California have seized over a ton of cocaine, valued at an estimated $45 million, following the discovery of a sophisticated cross-border tunnel connecting Tijuana, Mexico, to a San Diego retail store. The months-long investigation, initiated in December 2025 due to suspicious activity at the "Buy 4 Less" store in Otay Mesa, revealed a nearly 2,000-foot long underground passageway equipped with power, ventilation, and a rail system. This discovery culminated on May 29 with traffic stops leading to the seizure of 851 packages of cocaine and the arrest of four individuals, two from San Diego and two from Mexico, who face drug distribution conspiracy charges. Authorities view this as a significant blow to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
