Sarkisian’s Party To Shun 2026 Elections 01.04.2026

The Republican Party of Armenia (HHK), led by former President Serzh Sarkisian, announced on Wednesday its decision to not participate in the upcoming June 7 parliamentary elections, ending months of speculation. The party's governing body made this decision after a comprehensive analysis, with a full explanation of their reasoning and future plans to be revealed at a congress scheduled for Sunday. This marks a significant shift for the HHK, which previously ran in the 2021 elections as part of the Pativ Unem alliance, securing a distant third place with 5.2 percent of the vote. The party's nonparticipation comes amid a perceived lack of willingness from other major opposition groups, such as the Hayastan alliance and Mer Dzevov movement, to form alliances, and analysts suggest the HHK would face difficulties winning seats independently.
