UConn sophomore Sarah Strong wins Naismith Player of the Year 02.04.2026

UConn sophomore forward Sarah Strong has been awarded the 2026 Naismith Trophy, recognizing her as the nation's top women's basketball player. This prestigious honor, presented on Wednesday in Phoenix, reflects Strong's exceptional performance throughout the season, where she averaged 18.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.4 steals, and 1.6 blocks. Her contributions were instrumental in leading the UConn Huskies to an undefeated 38-0 record and a Final Four appearance. Coach Geno Auriemma praised Strong's high-level play, curiosity, and attentiveness. Strong's award marks her second national player of the year recognition, having also secured the U.S. Basketball Writers Association award, and she is a finalist for the Wooden Award.
