Survey finds low trust, widespread discontent among Cypriots 02.04.2026

A recent survey conducted by the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) between March 10 and 26, 2024, reveals significant public discontent among Cypriots ahead of the May legislative elections. Polling 1,402 individuals aged 18 and above, the research titled ‘Political Culture and Voting Behaviour’ found low social trust, with only 12 per cent trusting most people, and widespread disenchantment with politics and politicians. A substantial 39 per cent of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with their life, a sentiment consistent across age groups. The survey also highlighted an ideological identity crisis among political parties, as none dominated in key values. Furthermore, satisfaction with the quality of democracy stands at a low 26 per cent, and 56 per cent desire the removal of British bases.
