Mini Cooper allegedly stolen in Gauteng recovered in Eastern Cape 03.04.2026

A Mini Cooper, believed to have been stolen in Gauteng in January 2024, was recovered in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, on Wednesday. Police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo stated that Ngangelizwe police officers, responding to a complaint in the Orange Grove locality around 4:30 PM, spotted the vehicle with Gauteng registration plates. Upon circulating its details, they discovered it had a registered CAS number from Johannesburg. A 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene for being in possession of the suspected stolen vehicle and is scheduled to appear in the Mthatha magistrate’s court. OR Tambo district commissioner Maj-Gen Norman Modishana commended the officers for their vigilance.
