Our daughter died of MenB - we fear outbreaks without wider vaccine rollout 04.04.2026

Helen and Lee Draper are advocating for a wider rollout of the MenB vaccine after their 18-year-old daughter, Meg, died from Meningitis B in October 2025, months before a significant outbreak in Kent. Meg, who had received the MenACWY vaccine, was not eligible for the MenB vaccine as it is only offered to children born after May 2015. Her death at the University of Bournemouth highlighted concerns about vaccine eligibility and public awareness, especially as the MenB vaccine is only available privately for older individuals. The UK government has asked the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) to re-examine eligibility for meningitis vaccines for teenagers and young adults, following the Kent outbreak which claimed two young lives.
