Plateau Attack: Community, Security Operatives Were Blindsided – Gov Mutfwang 03.04.2026

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang stated that both residents and security operatives were caught off guard during a recent deadly attack in Jos on Sunday night, March 29, which claimed at least 28 lives, including University of Jos students and staff. He explained that attackers exploited the community's familiarity with NDLEA operations, appearing hooded and firing weapons, leading residents to initially believe it was a raid on drug addicts. By the time the deception was realized, significant damage had been done, and the assailants had escaped. The governor expressed optimism that the incident, which occurred in the city center, would be a one-off event. President Bola Tinubu visited Jos on Thursday to offer condolences and vowed to end the violence, announcing plans for 5,000 AI-enabled surveillance cameras and inviting community leaders to Abuja for dialogue, though his decision to hold engagements at the airport drew criticism for lacking empathy.
