Veteran opposition leader Maurice Kamto, speaking in a video address on Thursday or Friday, argued that the bill is a power grab aimed at preventing political turmoil. The amendment, if passed, would allow the Vice President to assume presidential duties upon the president's death, resignation, or incapacity without requiring new elections. Supporters contend the change is intended to bolster institutional stability and ensure leadership continuity, particularly given President Biya's age of 93.
