Ten people were killed on Friday night, November 17th, in a severe road accident at Kariandusi on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway in Gilgil. The incident occurred around 9:30 PM when a 14-seater matatu, traveling from Nairobi to Nakuru, collided with the rear of a stationary trailer. Gilgil Sub County Police Commander Wilstone Mwakio stated that all ten fatalities were passengers on the matatu, with the driver potentially speeding or failing to notice the stalled trailer. An additional five passengers sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Gilgil Sub County Hospital, where the deceased were also transported. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, amidst ongoing highway expansion projects in the region.
