US and Israel increasingly target Iran's civilian infrastructure 8h ago

Le Monde

Following a vow by US President Donald Trump on April 1, 2026, to send Iran "back to the Stone Ages," a series of escalating strikes have targeted Iran's civilian infrastructure. On April 2, the Pasteur Institute of Iran, a prominent medical research center, was severely damaged in an airstrike, with neither the US nor Israel claiming responsibility. Prior to this, on March 31, Tofigh Darou, a major pharmaceutical company producing anti-cancer drugs, was struck. Israel later claimed this company supplied fentanyl to Iran's nuclear program for chemical weapons research. On April 2, US aircraft bombed the B1 suspension bridge near Tehran, under construction to link the capital to Karaj, resulting in at least eight deaths and nearly 100 injuries among picnicking families.
