Artemis II spacecrew prepare for historic moon flyby 05.04.2026

The Artemis II crew, comprising astronauts Reid Wiseman, Christina Koch, Victor Glover, and Jeremy Hansen, is currently undertaking a historic 10-day lunar flyby, venturing farther from Earth than any humans before. As of Saturday, they were approximately 271,979 kilometers from Earth and approaching the Moon. The mission's next significant milestone involves entering the Moon's gravitational sphere of influence. The crew is meticulously documenting lunar features, including previously unseen areas of the Moon's far side, utilizing both specialized equipment and approved smartphones. Despite a persistent issue with the spacecraft's toilet, morale remains high, with Commander Wiseman expressing profound joy at speaking with his daughters from space. This mission is a crucial step in NASA's broader plan to establish a permanent lunar base for future exploration.
