Toddler injured after sticking hand into zoo’s wolf enclosure 05.04.2026

An 18-month-old toddler sustained minor injuries on Saturday, April 4, 2026, after an unsupervised incident at ZooAmerica, located within Hersheypark in Pennsylvania. The child managed to crawl under an exterior fence and reach the primary metal enclosure of the wolf habitat, where they stuck their hand through the fence. A wolf then made contact with the child's hand, an action described by zoo officials as consistent with natural animal behavior and not aggressive. The child was never inside the enclosure itself. ZooAmerica, an 11-acre facility accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums, emphasizes guest and animal safety as its top priority, with habitats designed for protection and clear signage in place.
