MEP Gheorghe Piperea demands questioning of Health and Finance ministers over Pfizer case 07.04.2026

AUR MEP Gheorghe Piperea has urgently called for the Health and Finance ministers to be questioned in Parliament regarding the Pfizer case, asserting that the European Commission, not Romania, should be held accountable. Piperea criticized the predictable failure of the lawsuit, highlighting the lack of transparency surrounding the procurement contract and the selection of lawyers. He questioned the basis of the 666 million euros currently being paid, noting potential penalties and interest that could escalate the total cost significantly. Piperea argued that the contract should be considered null and void due to its illicit cause, citing former Health Minister Alexandru Rafila's inability to access its contents. He further suggested that Romania could invoke the exception of non-performance to freeze payments and urged the Court of Auditors and the prosecutor's office to investigate the secret contract and potential criminal issues.
