This is how much SAPS Captain Johannes van Rensburg allegedly siphoned from state funds 08.04.2026

SAPS Captain Johannes van Rensburg, 52, is accused of defrauding the South African Police Services' finance system of R5 million. Appearing in Pretoria Magistrate's Court, he faces charges of fraud totaling R4 million and theft of R1 million, allegedly committed over two years between March 2024 and March 2026 while stationed in the Protection and Security Service's finance section. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) states Van Rensburg allegedly manipulated internal financial systems to withdraw funds under the guise of travel expenses for Presidential Protection Services close protectors, with the money never reaching its intended recipients. The scheme was uncovered after internal detection of irregular activity, leading to his arrest on April 6. He was granted R50,000 bail, with the case postponed to July 30 for further investigation.
