First non-Iranian oil tanker crosses Strait of Hormuz since ceasefire 15h ago

The MSG, a Gabon-flagged oil tanker carrying approximately 7,000 tonnes of Emirati fuel oil, became the first non-Iranian vessel to transit the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, April 9, since a ceasefire between Iran and the United States was declared. The tanker is en route to Aegis Pipavav, India. This passage marks a significant development as the crucial waterway, through which about one-fifth of global crude oil and LNG passes in peacetime, has seen limited reopening since the two-week truce began on Wednesday, April 8. Prior to this, only Iran-flagged tankers and bulk carriers had transited. Shipping intelligence sites indicate that daily transits remain significantly constrained, with capacity expected to be limited to 10-15 passages per day if the ceasefire holds, a stark contrast to the usual 120 daily transits.
