Art meets ocean science for Our Sisters' School, Woods Hole collaboration 09.04.2026

Our Sisters' School (OSS) students have collaborated with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) scientists and the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance on a two-year project exploring the impact of changing ocean conditions on fish habitats and local fisheries. This initiative, which merges art and science, involved students visiting WHOI for oceanographic research training and Chatham for hands-on fisheries activities. Artist Jill Pelto guided students in creating data-driven artwork that visually represents their scientific discoveries, which is now on display at the New Bedford Whaling Museum from April 9 to May 22, with a digital exhibition to follow. The project aims to make complex scientific data accessible and foster deeper conversations about climate change and ocean health.
