Judicial officers' gherao: NIA arrests Congress leaders, releases party nominee after questioning 18h ago

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two Congress leaders, Asif Sheikh and Shahadat Hossain, in Malda, West Bengal, in connection with the gherao of judicial officers during protests against voter list deletions. Congress candidate Sayem Chowdhury was questioned and released, with his mobile phone seized for examination. The NIA's investigation, initiated following a Supreme Court directive on April 6, aims to probe the confinement of seven judicial officers in Malda on April 1. This action follows earlier arrests by the NIA and West Bengal CID, including a local ISF worker and an MIM leader. Chowdhury has alleged political foul play by the ruling Trinamool Congress.
