From the Central Karoo to the Provincial Stage: A New Generation of Youth Leadership Is Rising 14.04.2026

The ANCYL Western Cape Provincial Congress, held on April 10-11, 2026, marked a significant moment for youth leadership emerging from the Central Karoo region. For the first time in its history, the Central Karoo secured three positions on the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC): Veron Klink as First Deputy Secretary, and Snowy Hawker and Natasha Hendricks as Additional Members. This achievement signifies a shift in the political centre of gravity, demonstrating that leadership can arise from overlooked rural areas, addressing issues like unemployment and poverty faced by young people. The congress also elected a new 13th PEC, led by Chairperson Cde Lwazi Pakade, emphasizing the need for renewed organizational strength and community engagement to rebuild the ANCYL.
