MOFA weighs further response to Brazilian envoy’s Taiwan remarks 15.04.2026

Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has lodged a formal protest with Brazilian envoy Nelson Santos over his "untrue and inappropriate" remarks regarding Taiwan's status, stressing that diplomatic representatives must not interfere in host countries' internal affairs. Premier Cho Jung-tai confirmed that necessary protests will be filed, while Executive Yuan spokeswoman Michelle Lee reiterated that Taiwan is an independent and sovereign nation, not subordinate to the PRC. MOFA also criticized China's interference in President William Lai's planned visit to Eswatini, asserting Taiwan's right to international engagement without external suppression. Separately, two bus operators are seeking compensation and chip replacements from manufacturers due to the use of China-made chips in 82 buses, raising national security concerns.
