Russia launches deadliest aerial assault of the year on Ukraine 16.04.2026

Russia conducted its deadliest aerial assault of the year on Ukraine on Thursday, targeting cities nationwide with nearly 700 drones and 19 ballistic missiles, resulting in 16 fatalities, including a 12-year-old child, according to Ukrainian officials. Kyiv experienced significant damage, with four deaths reported, including the child, as a drone struck an 18-story building. Odesa recorded nine fatalities, and Dnipro suffered two deaths from strikes on residential buildings. The attack also crippled energy infrastructure in Mykolaiv and Kherson, causing power outages. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged allies to increase pressure on Moscow, highlighting the need for robust defense and peace initiatives, particularly in light of an upcoming U.S. Treasury waiver expiration on Russian oil sales.
