Berlin offers free entry for tourists who help pick up litter 16.04.2026

Berlin is launching "BerlinPay," a new initiative inspired by Copenhagen's "CopenPay" scheme, offering tourists incentives for engaging in environmentally friendly and social activities this summer. Participants who collect litter, support social projects, or contribute to neighborhood beautification will receive vouchers redeemable for discounts at local museums, restaurants, and attractions, aligning with the city's 2026 theme of water tourism. This project aims to foster sustainable behavior and a greater appreciation for the city's surroundings among visitors, while Berlin concurrently addresses its growing waste management issues, evidenced by a significant increase in illegal dumping costs and stricter, higher fines for littering offenses. The success of Copenhagen's program, which saw 70% of tourists adopting greener habits, serves as a model for Berlin's efforts to encourage positive engagement.
