Umno has approved the return of former Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who was sacked from the party in January 2023 due to disciplinary action stemming from the 15th general election. The decision was confirmed by Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi following a party leadership meeting in Melaka. Jamaluddin had formally submitted his appeal letter last month for readmission. This move aligns with Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's previous statements that the party's doors are "unconditionally" open to former members, with all past mistakes and differences to be "forgiven." Former vice-president Hishammuddin Hashim is also reportedly seeking readmission under this initiative.
